FEATURED REVIEW

“Kaia struggled with severe allergies—itching, rashes, infections, and hair loss—no matter what we tried, even home-cooked meals. After switching to Carnevore Mountain’s raw food, everything changed. Within three months, her skin cleared, her coat grew back glossy, her allergies improved, and she’s now happy, healthy, and thriving.”

FAQ

Raw Feeding FAQs

Common questions about feeding raw, choosing proteins, storage, and starting with confidence.

Is Carnevore Mountain raw dog food complete and balanced?

“Complete and balanced” is a regulatory term tied to AAFCO nutrient profiles, which have no legal standing in Canada and which we do not claim. Our recipes follow the BARF model: 70% muscle meat, 10% bone, 10% organ (5% liver and 5% other secreting organ), and 10% fruit and vegetables, plus our whole-food sea vegetable blend for trace minerals. We use no synthetic vitamin or mineral premixes. For a broader nutrient profile we recommend rotating proteins over time, and we encourage you to talk to your veterinarian about your dog’s specific needs.

Do you follow BARF or prey model raw?

BARF. The two models differ in one main way: prey model is meat, organ and bone only, while BARF adds plant matter. Our recipes are 70% muscle meat, 10% bone, 10% organ and 10% fruit and vegetables, plus a whole-food sea vegetable blend. The fruit and vegetables are there on purpose — they contribute fibre, antioxidants and trace minerals from food rather than from a synthetic premix. If you feed strict prey model, our bone-free beef and lamb give you a base you can build on yourself.

Why are your beef and lamb recipes made without bone?

That is deliberate. Leaving bone out of our beef and lamb recipes gives you control over calcium, so you can supplement separately and adjust to what your dog actually needs. It is a useful option for feeders building their own routine or working with a nutritionist. If you feed these recipes, talk to your veterinarian about calcium balance.

How much liver is in your raw dog food?

Liver makes up 5% of every recipe, and we never go higher. Liver is the most nutrient-dense organ in a raw diet and an important natural source of vitamin A, but too much of it causes loose stool. The remaining 5% of the organ portion comes from other secreting organs, which keeps the diet varied without overloading any single ingredient.

What is the difference between single protein and novel protein meals?

Single protein meals use one clearly defined protein source and are helpful for simpler feeding and easier ingredient tracking. Novel protein meals use less common proteins and can be helpful for dogs with sensitivities or more targeted feeding needs.

Which recipes are best for dogs with food sensitivities?

That depends on your dog’s history. Some dogs do well with simpler single protein meals, while others benefit from moving to less common proteins. Start with a focused ingredient approach and adjust based on tolerance.

How much raw dog food should I feed each day?

A common starting point is roughly 2–3% of body weight daily, then adjusting based on age, activity level, metabolism, and body condition. Talk to your veterinarian about growing puppies, pregnant or nursing dogs, or dogs with diagnosed health conditions.

How long does raw dog food last after thawing?

Keep meals frozen until needed, thaw in the refrigerator, and use within 1–2 days once thawed.
